Russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes targeting Ukrainian military-industrial facilities overnight, escalating tensions in the ongoing conflict.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed the attacks, involving air-, sea-, and land-based precision weapons, hit enterprises producing missiles, explosives, and ammunition, as well as drone assembly workshops and weapons repair stations.
The strikes were described as retaliation for Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian airbases, including the high-profile “Operation Spiderweb” on June 1, which reportedly damaged dozens of Russian aircraft.

Ukrainian officials reported that the Russian barrage involved over 200 drones and multiple missiles, striking regions including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Lutsk, and Ternopil. At least five people were killed, with significant damage to industrial sites, civilian infrastructure, and residential areas. In Lviv, the “Electron” plant, a key producer of drone and missile guidance systems, was hit, disrupting Ukraine’s defense production.
Ukrainian authorities confirmed that air defenses downed 87 drones and several missiles, but the scale of the assault overwhelmed some systems, leading to casualties and widespread disruption.
The strikes follow a pattern of Russian retaliation for Ukrainian deep strikes into Russian territory, with President Vladimir Putin vowing to target symbolic and strategic sites in response.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attacks as “brutal,” highlighting civilian casualties, including three emergency responders in Kyiv. Amid ongoing peace talks, the intensified strikes signal Russia’s intent to maintain pressure on Ukraine’s military capabilities while complicating negotiations.
