One year after Operation Sindoor, a recent analytical report has described the military campaign as a defining moment in India’s evolving national security doctrine, reflecting a sharper and more assertive approach to counter-terrorism policy. According to a report by political analyst A. Jathindra published in Sri Lankan Guardian, Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces on May 6–7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed by Pakistan-backed militants. The operation involved precision strikes on nine terror infrastructure sites located across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
The report highlights that the campaign marked a shift in India’s strategic posture, combining political resolve with coordinated military planning. It noted that the strikes were designed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure while signalling a broader willingness to respond decisively to cross-border terrorism. Officials and analysts cited in the report described the operation as carefully calibrated to remain targeted while delivering significant operational impact.
A documentary released by India’s Defence Ministry during a Joint Commanders’ Conference in Jaipur was also referenced in the report, describing Operation Sindoor as a “punitive and targeted campaign.” It claimed that more than 100 terrorists were neutralised during the strikes. The documentary and associated commentary emphasized synchronized political and military decision-making at the highest levels of government.

The report further noted remarks attributed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who reiterated that India would pursue terrorists and their support networks with firm retaliation, and would not differentiate between perpetrators and facilitators of terrorism. It also cited defence officials describing the operation as the beginning of a sustained counter-terror approach rather than a standalone action.
Concluding its assessment, the report stated that Operation Sindoor reflects an emerging “new normal” in India’s security doctrine, shaped by the belief that deterrence depends on readiness to respond forcefully. It added that the operation underscored India’s intent to maintain strategic dominance while sending a strong signal against state-backed terrorism.
