Passengers travelling between Bihar and Punjab will soon have an additional rail option as the Railway Administration has announced a weekly special train service connecting Chhapra and Pathankot. The Chhapra-Pathankot-Chhapra Weekly Special Train (Train Nos. 05193/05194) will begin operations from July 20 and continue until September 30, with a total of 15 trips planned during the period. The special train service has been introduced to manage the expected rise in passenger traffic and improve travel convenience during the busy travel season.
The initiative aims to provide additional connectivity for passengers travelling between eastern and northern India, particularly those commuting between Bihar and Punjab for work, education, family visits and other purposes. According to the schedule released by the Railways, Train No. 05193, the Chhapra-Pathankot Weekly Special, will operate every Monday from July 20 to September 28. The train will depart from Chhapra Junction at 2:00 pm and reach Pathankot at 10:15 pm on the following day.
The service will cover several important stations along the route, providing passengers from multiple districts with access to the new train connection. The train will halt at key stations including Chhapra Kacheri, Dighwa Dubauli, Thawe, Tamkuhi Road, Padrauna, Kaptanganj, Gorakhpur, Basti, Gonda, Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Laksar, Roorkee, Saharanpur, Yamunanagar Jagadhri, Ambala Cantonment, Ludhiana and Jalandhar Cantonment. These stoppages are expected to benefit passengers from various regions by offering improved accessibility and reducing dependence on alternative routes.

The return service, Train No. 05194, will operate as the Pathankot-Chhapra Weekly Special every Wednesday from July 22 to September 30. The introduction of both onward and return services will provide passengers with a convenient travel schedule while helping manage crowd pressure on existing trains operating between the two regions. The special train will consist of 19 coaches, offering multiple travel options for passengers.
The coach composition includes AC Second Class, AC Third Class, Third AC Economy, Sleeper Class, General Second Class and luggage-cum-generator coaches. The combination of reserved and unreserved coaches is expected to cater to passengers with different travel requirements and budgets. Indian Railways frequently introduces special train services during periods of increased demand to accommodate additional passengers and improve connectivity across regions.
The Chhapra-Pathankot service is expected to provide relief to travellers from Bihar and neighbouring areas who often face difficulties securing seats on regular trains due to high demand. With operations scheduled for over two months, the weekly special train will offer passengers an additional option for travel between Chhapra and Pathankot. Railway authorities have advised passengers to check official schedules and booking availability before planning their journeys, as timings and services may be subject to operational requirements.
