Nearly a year after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, the family of Santosh Jagdale in Pune continues to grapple with the lasting impact of the tragedy, describing the past year as the “hardest” period of their lives. Santosh, 50, was among 26 people killed when terrorists opened fire on tourists in Anantnag district on April 22 last year. He was on a family holiday at the time, accompanied by his wife Pragati and daughter Asawari, both of whom witnessed the attack and have since struggled to recover from the trauma.
In the months following the incident, the emotional toll on the family has been profound, with both Pragati and Asawari continuing to deal with grief, fear, and memories of the violence they experienced firsthand. The psychological impact of witnessing a loved one’s death in such circumstances has deeply affected their daily lives, making it difficult to return to a sense of normalcy. Their story reflects the human cost of terror attacks, extending far beyond the immediate loss of life to long-term emotional suffering for survivors.
Alongside the emotional burden, the family has also faced significant financial challenges after losing its primary breadwinner. Santosh’s income had been central to the household’s stability, and his absence has created ongoing economic strain. Managing everyday expenses, planning for the future, and maintaining financial security have become increasingly difficult, highlighting the vulnerability faced by families affected by such tragedies.
