In a dramatic escalation of linguistic tensions in Karnataka, 41 members of a pro-Kannada outfit were arrested in Bengaluru on Thursday for storming a five-star hotel on Race Course Road, where a Hindi promotion meeting organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs' Rajbhasha Samiti was underway. The activists, raising fervent slogans against what they perceived as an attempt to impose Hindi on non-Hindi-speaking states, forcibly entered the venue, causing a significant disturbance and briefly halting the proceedings attended by six Members of Parliament.

The incident occurred during the final day of a three-day session held by the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, which began on September 23. According to police reports, the protest erupted between 10:45 AM and 11:00 AM when approximately 30 to 40 members of the outfit illegally entered the hotel. Shouting slogans and accusing the organizers of undermining regional languages, the group disrupted government officials’ work, creating chaos in the upscale venue. The activists argued that such events threaten Karnataka’s linguistic identity, particularly the prominence of Kannada in the state.

Swift police action brought the situation under control, with officers from the High Grounds Police Station detaining the protestors and restoring order. The timely intervention ensured the meeting could resume and conclude as planned, though not without a tense atmosphere. A case was promptly registered against the group, and all 41 individuals were produced before the 1st ACJM Court, which remanded them to judicial custody.
