Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, made a surprise visit to Ukraine on Friday, arriving in Kyiv via an overnight train to support soldiers wounded in the ongoing war with Russia. Ukrainian Railways confirmed his arrival, sharing a video of the prince being warmly greeted at the capital’s train platform. The visit underscores Harry’s commitment to aiding veterans through his Invictus Games Foundation, which focuses on the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded servicemen.
“Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, arrived in Kyiv by train to see first-hand the destruction caused by Russia’s full-scale invasion,” Ukrainian Railways stated in a social media post. The prince, accompanied by a team from the Invictus Games Foundation, is expected to meet Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and approximately 200 Ukrainian veterans during his visit. “We cannot stop the war, but what we can do is do everything we can to help the recovery process,” Harry told The Guardian.
The visit coincides with British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper’s trip to Kyiv, her first overseas engagement since assuming office last week. Harry’s presence in Ukraine follows a significant personal moment, having recently met his father, King Charles III, in Britain earlier this week—their first meeting in nearly two years. The prince, who will celebrate his 41st birthday on Monday, has been largely estranged from the royal family since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to California with his wife, Meghan.
