On the occasion of the 10th Armed Forces Veterans’ Day, President Droupadi Murmu paid glowing tributes to India’s ex-servicemen, acknowledging their courage, dedication, and sacrifice. As the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, she expressed confidence that veterans would continue to remain deeply committed to the nation even after retirement.
In a message shared on social media, the President said Veterans’ Day and Armed Forces Flag Day serve not only as moments of remembrance but also as opportunities to extend meaningful support to former service personnel. She noted that the unwavering valour of veterans continues to inspire generations of Indians and strengthens the country’s collective spirit.
Several senior leaders joined in paying homage, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi. All highlighted the indispensable role veterans have played in safeguarding India’s sovereignty and contributing to nation-building.

Armed Forces Veterans’ Day is observed annually on January 14 to mark the birth anniversary of Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, India’s first Commander-in-Chief of the Army. Field Marshal Cariappa, who retired on this day in 1953, led Indian forces during the 1947 war and laid the foundation of a legacy rooted in discipline, service, and patriotism.
General Upendra Dwivedi, in a message from the Indian Army, praised ex-servicemen for their enduring contributions beyond active duty. He said veterans remain pillars of national unity, guiding the youth and continuing to serve the nation through their values of loyalty, discipline, and selfless service.
Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi described Veterans’ Day as a tribute to a lifetime of sacrifice and commitment, assuring veterans that their bond with the armed forces remains unbroken. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh echoed similar sentiments, stating that the nation’s gratitude to its veterans and serving personnel is eternal and that their welfare and dignity remain an unwavering priority for the government.
