Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir in Nagpur’s Reshimbagh area on March 30, 2025, marking his first trip to the memorial of RSS founder Dr K B Hedgewar as India’s leader.
Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced on Thursday that Modi will also lay the foundation stone for the extension of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre during the visit, joined by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
The memorial, housing tributes to Hedgewar and the RSS’s second Sarsanghchalak M S Golwalkar, holds deep significance for the Sangh Parivar. “This is the first time a sitting prime minister will visit the premises,” a scholar familiar with RSS history noted, recalling that former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited in 2007, post-tenure.
Modi, a former RSS pracharak, last visited the site before assuming office.
The PM’s itinerary also includes a stop at Deekshabhoomi, the historic site where Dr B R Ambedkar embraced Buddhism with thousands of followers in 1956, reflecting a blend of ideological homage and social outreach.
The visit underscores Modi’s ties to the RSS, which he joined as a young volunteer, and aligns with the BJP’s efforts to strengthen its base in Maharashtra ahead of key political milestones.
The event is expected to draw significant attention, spotlighting Nagpur’s role as a cultural and political hub for both the RSS and the broader Hindutva movement.
