In a landmark announcement on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed a special economic package of USD 175 million for Seychelles, aimed at supporting projects in social housing, e-mobility, vocational training, health, defence, and maritime security. The declaration came during a joint press conference with Seychelles President Patrick Herminie in New Delhi.
PM Modi highlighted that India–Seychelles development cooperation has long been a pillar of their bilateral relations, with initiatives tailored to the priorities and needs of Seychelles. He emphasized that the economic package would facilitate people-centric projects, creating employment opportunities and skill development programs, particularly for the nation’s youth.
The announcement coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Seychelles, a milestone that both leaders hailed as an inspiration to further strengthen their partnership. Modi underscored that the historical and strategic links between the countries are reinforced by shared interests in trade, culture, and maritime security across the Indian Ocean.

Earlier in the day, the two leaders held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, discussing further collaboration in economic, defence, and cultural sectors. President Herminie also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, with India’s Ministry of External Affairs highlighting that Gandhi’s principles continue to guide the India–Seychelles partnership.
