Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on his 51st visit to his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi, launched a transformative array of 52 development projects worth Rs 2,183.45 crore on Saturday. The initiatives, inaugurated and foundation-laid during a vibrant event, aim to bolster infrastructure and quality of life across the Purvanchal region, just ahead of Rakshabandhan and during the auspicious Shravan month.
In a significant boost for farmers, Modi released the 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, transferring Rs 20,500 crore to over 9.7 crore farmers nationwide, ensuring direct financial support to agricultural households. Additionally, during a special programme in Banauli village, Sevapuri block, he distributed assistive devices like wheelchairs, tricycles, and visual aids to persons with disabilities and senior citizens, reinforcing inclusive development.
Addressing a cheering crowd in the local dialect, Modi said, “Hum Kaashi ke har parivar-jan ke pranaam karat hai,” earning resounding applause. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and BJP state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary joined the event, highlighting its political and regional significance.

The projects span critical sectors, including road infrastructure, healthcare, education, sports, tourism, and urban development. Religious and cultural tourism will see a boost with the construction of paved ghats, while sports infrastructure, a new homeopathic college, expanded electricity and parking facilities, renovated ponds, libraries, animal hospitals, and dog care centres will elevate Varanasi’s urban landscape.
Dilip Patel, head of BJP’s Kashi region unit, emphasized the visit’s importance, noting its potential to drive economic and social progress in the region. These projects align with Modi’s vision of blending Varanasi’s spiritual heritage with modern development, positioning the city as a model for holistic growth in India.
