A petrol bomb was allegedly thrown at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Sangrur, Punjab, in the early hours of Monday, prompting a police investigation into the incident. The attack occurred around 3:00 am when an unidentified person allegedly hurled a glass bottle filled with petrol at the building. The bottle struck the outer wall before catching fire, leaving burn marks on the exterior. No injuries were reported, and the fire was contained before causing major damage.

Police officials reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident and began collecting evidence. Investigators examined the site, recovered the remains of the glass bottle, and launched a detailed probe to determine how the attack was carried out. CCTV cameras installed at the BJP office and in nearby areas are being scanned to identify the suspect and ascertain whether more than one person was involved in the incident.

Speaking to reporters, Sangrur Superintendent of Police Divendra Attri confirmed that a forensic investigation was underway. He said the bottle used in the attack had been filled with petrol to make an improvised petrol bomb and that an FIR was being registered against the unidentified accused. A forensic team has also collected samples from the spot, while investigators continue to analyze evidence and review surveillance footage in an effort to trace and arrest those responsible.

The incident has drawn strong reactions from BJP leaders, who alleged that the attack was premeditated and questioned the law-and-order situation in Punjab. BJP leader Randeep Deol claimed that two youths had approached the office after preparing the petrol bomb and threw it at the building before fleeing. He also referred to an earlier attack on a BJP office in Chandigarh, saying the latest incident raised serious concerns about security and the functioning of the state administration.

Punjab BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led state government over the incident. In a post on X, he said the attack on the BJP office in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's home district reflected the state's law-and-order challenges. Bittu asserted that BJP workers would not be intimidated by such incidents and called on the government to ensure peace and security. Police have assured that those responsible will be identified and arrested as the investigation progresses.
