K. Pattabhi Ram on Monday defended the vision of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA), asserting that it remains crucial for the state’s long-term growth and development. He also took a swipe at former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying there was no need for “lessons” from him on governance or capital planning.
Pattabhi said the CRDA framework was designed to ensure planned urban development, infrastructure expansion, and economic growth in the Amaravati region. He argued that the original vision behind the capital city project was rooted in creating a world-class administrative and economic hub that could drive investment and employment.
Criticising Jagan Mohan Reddy’s earlier policies, Pattabhi alleged that the previous government’s approach had created uncertainty around the capital region, impacting investor confidence and slowing development. He maintained that consistent policy direction and clarity were essential to revive momentum in Amaravati.

The remarks come amid renewed political debate over the future of Andhra Pradesh’s capital and the role of the CRDA in shaping it. The issue has remained contentious since the previous government proposed a decentralisation model involving multiple capitals, drawing opposition from stakeholders who supported Amaravati as the sole capital.
Pattabhi reiterated that the CRDA’s vision continues to be relevant, particularly in the context of urban planning and infrastructure-led growth. He emphasised that large-scale development projects require continuity and long-term commitment, rather than frequent policy shifts.
The exchange highlights the ongoing political divide in Andhra Pradesh over capital development strategy, with differing views on decentralisation versus a single, centralised capital model continuing to shape the state’s policy discourse.
