Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for unity among Muslim nations to counter Israeli aggression during a one-day solidarity visit to Qatar on Thursday, following Israel’s recent airstrikes on residential areas in Doha. In a meeting with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Sharif condemned the September 9 attack as a “blatant and flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law, emphasizing the need for a collective response to Israel’s actions in the Middle East.
The visit, described as a gesture of solidarity and regional unity, underscored the deep fraternal ties between Pakistan and Qatar. Sharif, accompanied by a high-level delegation including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, and other senior officials, expressed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar’s security and sovereignty. He conveyed deep condolences for the loss of lives in the Israeli attack and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured, according to an official statement from Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Sharif criticized Israel’s actions as attempts to destabilize the region and undermine Qatar’s diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, particularly its role in mediating peace in Gaza. “Israel’s brazen aggression in the Middle East must be stopped, and the Ummah needs unity among its ranks in the face of Israeli provocations,” he stated. He praised Qatar’s constructive mediation efforts and condemned the airstrikes as a serious breach of international law.

In response to Qatar’s request, Pakistan has called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to address recent developments in the Middle East. Sharif also welcomed Qatar’s initiative to host an Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit on September 14–15, expressing Pakistan’s readiness to co-sponsor and co-convene the event under the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Qatari Emir thanked Sharif for his visit, which reaffirmed the historic and brotherly bonds between the two nations. Both leaders committed to close coordination to promote regional peace, uphold international law, and support Palestinian rights. The Foreign Office noted that the visit highlighted Pakistan’s steadfast support for Qatar during challenging times, rooted in shared faith and values.
While the primary focus was solidarity, it remains unclear whether discussions included potential defense cooperation to enhance Qatar’s security. The visit follows global condemnation of Israel’s airstrikes, which targeted Hamas leadership in Doha, killing five members and sparking outrage for violating Qatar’s sovereignty.
This engagement reinforces Pakistan and Qatar’s shared commitment to regional stability and peace, with both nations pledging to work together to address the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
