Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh, including the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), have criticised the state government over reported electricity shortages and power cuts amid intense summer conditions, alleging that the situation has worsened under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav accused the state government of failing to expand electricity generation capacity and criticised its handling of power distribution. In a post on social media platform X, he alleged that the government had not taken adequate steps to strengthen infrastructure and claimed that only electricity demand and prices had increased, while supply remained inconsistent.
Yadav further stated that the current situation reflected what he described as administrative shortcomings, adding that the state had been pushed into a “miserable condition” under BJP rule. He also remarked that the government had not demonstrated sufficient capacity to initiate large-scale power projects or address growing energy requirements.

BSP chief Mayawati also raised concerns over frequent power outages, stating that electricity shortages had become a widespread issue across densely populated regions of the state during peak summer. She noted that the situation was causing significant hardship for vulnerable groups, including low-income households, farmers, small traders, and working-class citizens.
Mayawati further urged the government to take immediate corrective measures, including improving electricity supply and enhancing generation capacity through new power projects. She emphasised that addressing the crisis was necessary in the larger public interest, as public frustration over power disruptions continued to grow across multiple regions of Uttar Pradesh.
