Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday that he and US President Donald Trump had agreed that any future agreement with Iran must completely eliminate the Islamic republic’s nuclear threat. The remarks came after a phone conversation between the two leaders on Saturday night, which Trump earlier described as having gone “very well”.
In a statement issued after the call, Netanyahu said both leaders were aligned on the need for a comprehensive approach to Iran’s nuclear programme. According to the Israeli prime minister, any final deal must involve the dismantling of Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities and the removal of enriched nuclear material from Iranian territory.
“President Trump and I agreed that any final agreement with Iran must eliminate the nuclear threat entirely,” Netanyahu said in the statement. He added that his government’s position remained unchanged and stressed that Iran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons under any circumstances.

The comments come amid continued international scrutiny over Iran’s nuclear activities and renewed diplomatic discussions involving Tehran and Western powers. Israel has consistently opposed agreements it believes would allow Iran to retain nuclear enrichment capabilities, arguing that such arrangements could eventually enable the country to develop nuclear weapons.
Netanyahu also said he discussed the memorandum of understanding related to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz during his conversation with Trump. The strategically important waterway is a critical route for global oil shipments and has frequently been at the centre of regional tensions involving Iran and Western allies.
The Israeli leader further emphasised the strength of ties between Israel and the United States, saying cooperation between the two countries had “never been stronger”. Netanyahu added that Trump reaffirmed Washington’s support for Israel’s right to defend itself against threats across the region, including along the Lebanese front.
