A 35-year-old man from Navi Mumbai, Rajkumar Ramshiromani Sahu, was arrested for allegedly setting his 32-year-old wife, Jagrani Rajkumar Sahu, on fire in their Pagotegaon home in Uran, suspecting her of an extramarital affair. The brutal incident, which occurred in the early hours of August 25, was initially misrepresented by Sahu as a suicide, but his seven-year-old daughter’s chilling testimony exposed the truth, leading to his arrest on August 26.
Senior Inspector Hanif Mulani of Uran police station revealed that Sahu, driven by suspicion, tied Jagrani’s hands and legs, doused her with kerosene, and set her ablaze with a lighter. Despite being rushed to a hospital, Jagrani was declared dead on arrival. Sahu claimed she had locked herself in a room and taken her own life, prompting an initial accidental death report. However, discrepancies in his story emerged during the investigation.
The couple’s daughter told police she witnessed her father committing the act, contradicting his narrative. CCTV footage further confirmed Sahu leaving the house shortly after the incident, undermining his claim of absence. The autopsy report, combined with forensic evidence, solidified the case against him. Uran police registered a murder charge under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 103(1), labeling it a clear case of domestic violence. “The evidence leaves no doubt about the brutality of this act,” Mulani stated. The investigation continues to uncover further details of the tragic case.
