Mumbai's long-delayed Mrinal Tai Gore Flyover extension is set to open on June 6, providing a major boost to east-west connectivity in the city's western suburbs. The new four-lane extension is expected to reduce congestion on key routes and improve travel between Goregaon, Oshiwara, Andheri, and Jogeshwari.
The project consists of a 750-meter-long flyover connecting the Ram Mandir and Goregaon areas. While the main railway-over-bridge section became operational in 2016, work on the approach roads and supporting infrastructure continued for several years before reaching completion. The extension received administrative approval in 2018, and construction began in March 2019.
The project faced multiple hurdles, including traffic management challenges, as construction had to be carried out mostly during nighttime above four busy junctions. The COVID-19 pandemic further delayed progress due to labor shortages. Design modifications were also introduced to ensure access to nearby crematoriums and burial grounds, leading to the construction of an additional underpass.

Initially estimated at ₹209 crore, the project's cost eventually rose to around ₹248 crore due to revised plans, technical changes, and additional construction requirements. Despite the increase, civic authorities believe the flyover will deliver significant long-term benefits to commuters in the western suburbs.
Once operational, the flyover will allow smoother movement between Oshiwara and Goregaon without heavy dependence on SV Road and Link Road. In the future, it is expected to integrate with the upcoming Goregaon-Mulund Link Road and Mumbai Coastal Road, creating a larger road network that authorities say could transform commuting patterns across Mumbai.
