The death of Twisha Sharma has triggered fresh controversy after her mother-in-law made a series of allegations regarding the 33-year-old’s mental health, substance use, and relationship with her parents, even as police continue investigating the case as a suspected dowry-related death. Twisha was found hanging at her husband’s residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, and her husband, Samarth Singh, along with his mother, Giribala Singh, has been accused of murder and dowry harassment by the victim’s family.
Addressing a press conference, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, claimed that Twisha had been undergoing psychiatric counseling and alleged that she consumed marijuana during pregnancy. Singh further stated that prescribed medicines were part of a treatment process and alleged that Twisha showed symptoms linked to withdrawal. She also claimed the family had supported her through a “mental training program" and described the loss as emotionally devastating for them. Singh alleged that Twisha’s parents remained absent during the last several months of her life and accused them of distancing themselves after encouraging her entry into the glamour industry.
The mother-in-law also made claims related to a medical termination of pregnancy, alleging that Twisha regretted beginning the process after taking the first course of medication. According to Singh, the family supported her through the procedure, which she claimed took place earlier this month. She further questioned the role of Twisha’s parents, particularly her father’s long professional association with the pharmaceutical industry abroad, though she acknowledged that the matter remains under judicial consideration. None of the allegations made by the in-laws regarding substance use or mental health have been independently verified by investigators so far.

Meanwhile, Twisha’s father, Navnidhi Sharma, has strongly accused the in-laws of subjecting his daughter to dowry-related harassment. Speaking publicly about the case, he alleged that indirect financial pressures and taunts began soon after the marriage and intensified after Twisha lost her job. He described Samarth Singh as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” and claimed there was a history of harassment within the husband’s family. Navnidhi Sharma stated that although explicit dowry demands were never made, pressure was allegedly created through lifestyle expectations and financial burdens imposed on the couple.
According to the family, Twisha and Samarth first met through a dating application before both families eventually approved the marriage. Investigators are now examining claims and counterclaims from both sides as part of the ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death. Police are also reviewing digital communications, medical records, and statements from relatives and associates while awaiting further forensic findings. The case has drawn widespread public attention after videos linked to the aftermath of the incident circulated online and several details emerged in media reports over the past week.
Twisha Sharma was known as a former Miss Pune title holder, model, actor, and digital creator who had also completed an MBA degree. Originally from Noida in Uttar Pradesh, she entered the modeling industry between 2009 and 2012 before moving into advertising and regional cinema projects. She appeared in Telugu film productions, including Mugguru Monagallu, and also acted in the short film Zara Sambhal Ke in 2018. Friends and colleagues have described her as ambitious, creative, and determined to establish herself independently in the entertainment industry, making the circumstances surrounding her death all the more shocking for those who knew her.
