Dhruv Jurel celebrated his second Test century in memorable fashion during India’s second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo, revealing a new tattoo on his left bicep that reads “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan.” The India wicketkeeper-batter pulled up his sleeve after reaching the landmark, adding a personal touch to an important innings. Jurel had endured a tense wait on 99 before finally completing his century.

The 24-year-old reached three figures after surviving a dramatic run-out opportunity. Facing Asitha Fernando, Jurel drove towards mid-off and attempted a quick single after the ball took an awkward bounce. The fielder quickly collected it and threw at the stumps, but Jurel’s full-length dive helped him make his ground as the direct hit missed. He then celebrated by removing his helmet and punching the air.

Mohammed Siraj, who was batting alongside Jurel, was among the first to congratulate him. With India already eight wickets down, Siraj had provided valuable support by defending deliveries and allowing Jurel to focus on reaching his milestone. The pair shared a hug after the century, marking an emotional moment during India’s strong batting display.

Jurel eventually finished unbeaten on 115 from 177 deliveries as India reached 503 for nine before declaring. He had earlier shared a crucial 112-run partnership with Rishabh Pant, who contributed 63. Jurel then continued to guide India’s lower order, helping the team move beyond the 500-run mark and giving the visitors an opportunity to bowl at Sri Lanka before the end of the day.

The century continued Jurel’s impressive run in the series. He had scored a match-winning 51 from 68 balls in India’s first Test victory, giving him consecutive scores above fifty. His latest innings also took his Test tally beyond 600 runs from 12 matches, with his batting average moving above 35. His first Test century came against the West Indies last year.

Jurel’s century also placed him in a select group of Indian batters. He became only the second Indian to score a Test hundred while batting at No. 7 or lower in Sri Lanka, joining Hardik Pandya, who scored 108 at Pallekele in 2017. The combination of his century, unbeaten finish and the “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan” tattoo made his Colombo milestone particularly memorable.
