A senior lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur on Saturday, in a shocking incident that has raised concerns over law and order in the region. The victim, identified as Rajiv Singh, was attacked while he was out on a morning walk, with assailants opening fire at close range and killing him on the spot before attempting to flee.
According to reports, two men arrived on a motorcycle and approached the 45-year-old advocate. One of the attackers got off the bike and used a crude pistol to shoot Singh. The incident was captured on CCTV cameras, showing the attackers executing the crime in a swift and targeted manner, leaving little chance for the victim to escape.
However, in a dramatic turn of events, the attackers struggled to escape immediately after the shooting as their motorcycle malfunctioned. Visuals showed one of the men repeatedly attempting to start the bike by kicking its pedal, while the other remained alert with the weapon. During this time, a few bystanders approached cautiously but retreated after the armed assailant threatened them.

After several attempts, the motorcycle eventually started, allowing the attackers to flee the scene. The delay created panic in the area, and soon after the incident, hundreds of people gathered at the location, triggering tension and fear among local residents.
Police sources revealed that Rajiv Singh had previously expressed concerns about threats to his life and had submitted an application indicating apprehension of an attack. He had also reportedly been targeted in two earlier incidents, raising questions about the adequacy of security measures provided to him.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the हत्या, examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and apprehend the accused. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible, as efforts continue to determine the motive behind the targeted killing.
