A devastating incident unfolded in Tantigaon village, Mathura, on July 31, 2025, when 48-year-old Saudan Singh allegedly shot his wife, Rajkumari, before turning the gun on himself in a heated domestic dispute. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suresh Chandra Rawat confirmed that Saudan died en route to the hospital, while Rajkumari, 45, remains in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her stomach.
The couple, residents of Tenti Gaon under the Surir police station, had been embroiled in escalating tensions for days, barely communicating. On Thursday, Saudan attempted to resolve their differences, but the discussion spiraled into a violent argument. In a fit of rage, he used a country-made pistol to shoot Rajkumari before fatally shooting himself in the temple, police said.
The incident, reported around midday, sent shockwaves through the close-knit village. Neighbors, alerted by gunshots, rushed the couple to a local hospital, where Saudan was declared dead. Rajkumari was shifted to a trauma center in Agra for advanced treatment. Preliminary investigations point to prolonged marital discord, possibly exacerbated by financial or personal issues, though specifics remain under probe.

Mathura police have seized the illegal pistol and launched a forensic analysis to trace its origin, as country-made firearms are a growing concern in Uttar Pradesh. The case has been registered under relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections, including 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder). Authorities are interviewing family members to uncover the dispute’s root cause, with early reports suggesting no prior police complaints from the couple.
The tragedy highlights a grim pattern of domestic violence in the region, with Mathura reporting multiple cases in 2025, including a November 2024 incident where a woman orchestrated her husband’s murder over marital strife. Community leaders have called for counseling programs to address rising domestic conflicts, while locals mourn the loss and pray for Rajkumari’s recovery.
