A dramatic rescue unfolded in Vrindavan, Mathura, when a 50-year-old man attempted suicide by jumping into the Yamuna River but soon regretted his decision and cried out for help. The incident took place on Saturday after the man, identified as Sundar, had a heated argument with his family. Consumed by anger, he leapt into the river near his house, Vrindavan Police Station SHO Sanjay Pandey said.
However, once in the water, survival instincts kicked in. Sundar struggled against the strong current, desperately moving his arms and legs before finally latching onto a pillar of a bridge. Exhausted and terrified, he began shouting for help.

A passerby, Bhura Singh, heard his desperate calls and quickly alerted the police. Within minutes, PRV (Police Response Vehicle) 7597 reached the spot. The current was fast, and Sundar’s grip on the pillar was weakening.
Without wasting time, Constable Vishal Tomar and driver Naresh Kumar tied themselves with ropes and waded into the river. Battling the force of the water, they reached Sundar and pulled him to safety.
Relieved but shaken, Sundar thanked the officers for saving his life. He admitted that he was seconds away from losing his grip and letting the river take him. Officials confirmed that Sundar’s life was saved due to the timely response of both the passerby and the police team.
