Amid growing internal dissent within the All India Trinamool Congress, party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a major organisational reshuffle aimed at strengthening the party structure and addressing concerns raised by leaders following recent political setbacks. The overhaul comes as the party grapples with an unprecedented wave of discontent that has exposed divisions within its ranks.
One of the most significant changes involves the role of Abhishek Banerjee, the party's national general secretary and Mamata Banerjee's nephew. Under the new arrangement, senior leaders Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen have been appointed as national joint secretaries and will assist Abhishek Banerjee in organisational responsibilities. Political observers view the move as an effort to broaden decision-making within the party and address concerns regarding concentration of authority.
The reshuffle follows mounting criticism from sections of the party after its recent Assembly election performance. According to party sources, dissatisfaction among several leaders was directed at the organisational functioning and electoral strategy associated with Abhishek Banerjee's leadership. Internal disagreements reportedly became more visible after post-election meetings, where some leaders openly expressed concerns regarding the party's direction and management.

In another key appointment, senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya has been elevated as the new state president of the party, a move seen as part of a broader organisational reset. Meanwhile, Subrata Bakshi will continue as vice-president of the National Working Committee. The party has also introduced new faces across various organisational wings in an effort to strengthen grassroots outreach and rejuvenate its leadership structure.
Among the other appointments announced, Sajda Ahmed, Mamata Thakur, Nayana Bandyopadhyay and Swati Khandekar have been named vice-presidents of the West Bengal Pradesh Trinamool Congress. Additionally, MP Saayoni Ghosh will continue to head the party's youth wing. The changes indicate a balance between experienced leaders and newer faces within the organisation.
The developments come as the party leadership seeks to contain internal unrest and reaffirm unity ahead of future political challenges. Responding to the dissent, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh criticised the rebel faction, alleging that some leaders were acting under external pressures. Despite the ongoing turbulence, the party leadership has expressed confidence that its core support base and grassroots workers remain committed to Mamata Banerjee's leadership and the party's political agenda.
