Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad on Tuesday called for a march to the Lok Bhavan in Patna on August 19, accusing the Bihar government of adopting what he described as a "dictatorial attitude" towards democratic demands. Lalu's call comes amid a political confrontation between the RJD and the state government over the Siwan incident. In a strongly worded appeal, the former Bihar chief minister alleged that the government was responding to demands raised through democratic means with excessive force. He urged party workers and supporters to participate in the proposed march to the Governor's official residence.
The RJD chief alleged that the state government's response to public demands had become increasingly authoritarian. Referring to the use of force, he said the government "responds to democratic demands with bullets from an AK-47". The statement marks a sharp escalation in the opposition party's criticism of the Bihar administration and is likely to intensify the political debate over the handling of the Siwan episode. The proposed march follows an earlier announcement by RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav, who had said that leaders of the Mahagathbandhan would submit a memorandum to the Governor over the Siwan incident.
The opposition alliance has sought to highlight the matter as an issue of governance and accountability while demanding attention to the concerns raised following the incident. The Lok Bhavan march is expected to provide the RJD with a platform to mobilise its supporters and put pressure on the state government. By taking the protest to the Governor, the opposition alliance is also seeking to formally place its concerns before the constitutional head of the state. The memorandum is expected to focus on the circumstances surrounding the Siwan incident and the government's response.

The latest development comes as Bihar's political parties step up their public campaigns and attacks ahead of the state's electoral cycle. The RJD has been seeking to portray the government as unresponsive to public concerns, while the proposed mobilisation allows the party to consolidate its opposition campaign around issues of law and order, accountability and democratic rights. For Lalu Prasad and the RJD, the August 19 march is therefore both a protest over the immediate Siwan controversy and an attempt to sharpen the party's political messaging against the state government.
The participation of Mahagathbandhan leaders could further broaden the issue beyond the RJD and turn the march into a coordinated opposition demonstration. The government's response to the proposed mobilisation will be closely watched, particularly given Lalu's allegation that democratic demands are being met with force. The RJD, meanwhile, is expected to press ahead with its plan to approach the Governor and seek action over the concerns raised by the opposition alliance.
