The Tamil Nadu Health Department has identified six victims in an ongoing investigation into an illegal kidney trafficking racket in Namakkal district, centered in Pallipalayam and Kumarapalayam.
The probe, initiated after allegations surfaced of touts targeting impoverished power loom workers, has zeroed in on M. Anandan, a 52-year-old alleged broker and DMK functionary from Annai Satya Nagar, who remains absconding.
Health officials, led by District Joint Director Dr. A. Rajmohan, conducted inspections following a complaint from Pallipalayam Government Hospital’s Dr. K. Veeramani, who reported Anandan’s role in coercing poor women into selling their kidneys for as little as ₹63,000, far below the promised ₹10 lakh.

The racket allegedly transported victims to private hospitals in Bengaluru and Kochi for illegal organ removal, leaving many with health complications and minimal compensation.
Health Minister Ma Subramanian has ordered a detailed probe, with a report due within two weeks, emphasizing that only voluntary organ donations are legal under TRANSTAN regulations. Authorities are investigating potential hospital links, but victims’ reluctance to file complaints due to fear and stigma poses challenges.
