Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan felicitated India wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson on Monday for his stellar performances in India’s victorious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign earlier this month. The ceremony was held at the CM’s official residence, Cliff House, where Samson received a commemorative memento reading, “We salute Sanju Viswanath Samson.”
Samson, dressed in traditional attire, was lauded for his match-winning contributions during the tournament’s knockout stages, including a 97-run innings off 50 balls against West Indies in the Super 8 stage, an 89 off 42 in the semifinal against England, and another 89 off 46 in the final against New Zealand. Sharing the moment on X, Vijayan wrote that he conveyed “the profound love and joy of the people of Kerala” and wished Samson continued success.
Samson’s journey in the World Cup had initially faced challenges. He was left out of India’s playing XI in the opening match and faced scrutiny after a modest run tally of 46 in five home T20Is against New Zealand. However, he turned the tide with a series of match-winning performances, emerging as one of India’s standout players in the tournament.

Following the felicitation, Samson has shifted focus to the upcoming IPL 2026 season, where he will debut with Chennai Super Kings. Chennai, five-time IPL champions, will kick off their campaign against Samson’s former franchise, Rajasthan Royals, in Guwahati on March 30, before facing Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals in subsequent fixtures.
Chennai Super Kings are aiming for a strong rebound after finishing last in IPL 2025 with just four wins out of 14 matches. Samson’s inclusion is expected to bolster their batting and wicketkeeping, adding fresh momentum to the side. The felicitation underscores Kerala’s pride in Samson’s achievements and reflects the growing recognition of his impact on Indian cricket at the highest level.
