Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday called upon citizens to play a decisive role in eliminating drug abuse, urging a collective effort to dismantle what he described as a “narco-terror network” threatening the region’s youth and social fabric. Addressing a public gathering in Pulwama, the L-G said that the past several weeks had seen a growing public movement against drugs across Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted similar mobilisation in districts such as Baramulla, Srinagar, Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, and Kathua, where youth groups and parents have reportedly come together to raise awareness and oppose drug trafficking.
Sinha said that what was earlier a “silence” around drug abuse had now transformed into a widespread public outcry. According to him, community participation has become a key force in the ongoing campaign, with thousands of local events being organised to build awareness and encourage reporting of drug-related activities.
He further claimed that the drug trade in the region is closely linked to broader security concerns, stating that narcotics networks and terror financing are interconnected. He alleged that profits from drug trafficking are being used to fund extremist activities, and emphasised that tackling drug smuggling is essential for safeguarding both public safety and national security.

The L-G also outlined enforcement measures being taken by the administration, including arrests, property seizures, licence cancellations, and intensified surveillance. He said hundreds of drug traffickers have been detained, while several properties and vehicles linked to illicit networks have been seized or demolished as part of the crackdown.
Sinha added that rehabilitation and awareness efforts are also being expanded, with thousands of outreach programmes, village-level committees, and youth clubs formed to support prevention and recovery efforts. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and united, stating that every effort to stop drug trafficking contributes to saving lives and strengthening the region’s future stability.
