Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren was critically injured early Saturday morning after a fall in his bathroom, resulting in a severe head injury and brain hemorrhage. The minister, a prominent Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader and Ghatshila MLA, was initially rushed to Tata Motors Hospital in Jamshedpur, where doctors identified blood clotting in his brain. Due to the severity of his condition, arrangements were swiftly made to airlift him to Medanta Hospital in Delhi for advanced medical treatment, according to State Health Minister Irfan Ansari.
The incident occurred at Soren’s residence in Ghatshila, where he slipped and fell, sustaining a deep head wound. “Ramdas Soren ji’s health has suddenly deteriorated. He fell in the bathroom, which resulted in a severe brain injury and a blood clot,” Ansari said in a statement. Speaking to reporters, he added that doctors at Tata Motors Hospital recommended immediate transfer to Delhi for specialized care. “We are preparing to airlift him to Delhi. I am constantly in touch and monitoring his condition,” Ansari confirmed.
Soren, who was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the Hemant Soren-led government on August 30, 2024, replacing former Chief Minister Champai Soren, holds the portfolios of School Education, Literacy, and Registration. His tenure has been marked by ambitious plans to reform Jharkhand’s education system, including teacher recruitment, school reopenings, and integrating regional languages like Santali into curricula. In February, he chaired a meeting in Kolhan to push for 100% school enrollment and infrastructure improvements, emphasizing education as a state priority.

The news of Soren’s injury has sent shockwaves through Jharkhand’s political circles, especially following the recent loss of his younger brother, Ram Soren, who passed away in March 2025 at RIMS Hospital in Ranchi. Soren had expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as an “irreparable loss” for his family. The JMM-led coalition, which secured 56 of 81 seats in the recent assembly elections, now faces uncertainty as one of its key leaders fights for recovery.
State officials and JMM leaders have rallied in support, with Ansari and others maintaining close oversight of Soren’s medical care. The transfer to Medanta Hospital, known for its advanced neurosurgical facilities, underscores the critical nature of his condition. As Jharkhand awaits updates on Soren’s health, the incident highlights the fragility of even the most prominent figures in the face of sudden accidents.
