Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi concluded her three-day visit to India on Friday and departed from New Delhi after what officials described as a “memorable and highly successful” trip that further strengthened bilateral relations between India and Japan. The visit, held from July 1 to July 3, marked her first trip to India after assuming office and included participation in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit.
Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh saw off Prime Minister Takaichi at the airport as she left India. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to deepening their Special Strategic and Global Partnership. He noted that the engagement had reinforced cooperation aimed at shared growth, regional stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific region.
During her visit, Prime Minister Takaichi held detailed talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, where both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions covered key areas such as trade and investment, economic security, clean energy, defence cooperation, emerging technologies and people-to-people exchanges. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Following the summit-level talks, both sides witnessed the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding and agreements focused on economic security, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and research and development. According to MEA officials, the discussions resulted in the adoption of three key joint documents, including a Joint Declaration on Economic Security, a Joint Statement on Artificial Intelligence cooperation and a Joint Statement on Energy Resilience.
Prime Minister Modi also hosted a dinner for the visiting Japanese leader, where the two leaders reportedly discussed bilateral ties in a more informal setting. In a social media post, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended by India and said the conversation helped deepen mutual trust and understanding between the two countries. She also highlighted plans to further strengthen ties as both nations approach the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
The visit also featured the India-Japan Joint Economic Forum, where both leaders encouraged greater industry collaboration, investment flows and resilient supply chains. Emphasis was placed on advancing manufacturing partnerships under the “Make in India for the World” initiative, along with cooperation in critical and emerging technologies, clean growth and sustainable development. Officials on both sides described the visit as a significant step forward in expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries.
