Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will undertake a three-day official visit to India from July 1 to July 3 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Friday. The visit will coincide with the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where the two leaders are expected to review the progress of bilateral relations and discuss ways to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to the MEA, the summit will provide an opportunity for both countries to strengthen their Special Strategic and Global Partnership by expanding collaboration in key areas such as trade, investment, defence, technology and regional connectivity. The leaders are also expected to exchange views on major regional and global developments, reaffirming their commitment to a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific.
The visit will mark Prime Minister Takaichi's first official trip to India since assuming office. It follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Tokyo in August 2025 for the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, where both nations reaffirmed their shared vision of enhancing strategic cooperation and advancing economic partnerships.
