Two people were killed and five others injured after a passenger vehicle overturned in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Monday, officials said. The accident took place at Battalgala near the Bakkal tunnel at around 8:40 am, when the vehicle was travelling from Saranghdar towards Reasi.

According to officials, the driver lost control of the vehicle while it was moving along the route, causing it to overturn. Eyewitnesses said one of the vehicle’s tyres reportedly burst before the driver lost control, leading to the accident.

A 48-year-old man died at the spot, officials said. Six other people were rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment following the accident. One of the injured, a person aged around 35, was in critical condition and later succumbed to the injuries.

Officials said two other critically injured people were referred to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Jammu for specialised treatment. The remaining injured persons are undergoing medical care, with authorities monitoring their condition.

The accident has raised concerns about the risks faced by passengers travelling through hilly stretches in the region, where sudden vehicle-related problems can lead to serious road accidents. Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and injured were not immediately available.
