A 21-year-old medical student from Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir, Gaurav Singh Nag, has been unaccounted for in Russia since the evening of December 10, 2025, leaving his family in a state of profound distress and uncertainty. Enrolled in the MBBS program at Yaroslav-the-Wise Novgorod State University in Veliky Novgorod, Gaurav had been pursuing his studies abroad for three years without ever raising any concerns about personal safety, academic pressures, or other issues, according to relatives.
Family members recounted that Gaurav abruptly left his hostel dormitory that evening without notifying his roommate or anyone else, an action entirely out of character for the young student. Notably, he left behind essential items including his mobile phone, wallet, and university identity card, taking only his bank card with him, which has deepened worries about potential foul play or an unforeseen emergency situation.
The disappearance came to light the next day when Gaurav's younger sister, who is also studying MBBS at the same institution and residing in the identical housing complex, was informed by the roommate. Despite immediate searches conducted by fellow students, university staff, and local contacts, no trace of Gaurav has been found, prompting escalating appeals for assistance from both Russian authorities and Indian diplomatic channels.

In a heartfelt public plea, Gaurav's mother has directly addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting urgent intervention to coordinate with Russian officials for a thorough investigation and swift location of her son. She stressed that Gaurav had maintained regular communication with the family prior to the incident and had shown no signs of distress or intention to abscond.
As days pass without any leads, the case has highlighted vulnerabilities faced by Indian students abroad, particularly in regions experiencing harsh winter conditions or geopolitical complexities. The family continues to hold out hope for positive developments while awaiting official responses from concerned governments to bring clarity and resolution to this alarming situation.
