A packed auditorium in Haifa, Israel, was left spellbound on Monday evening as the Indian dance troupe Amaiza delivered a dazzling performance, seamlessly blending the classical Odissi dance form with contemporary styles like Bollywood, urban dance, and Middle-Eastern influences. Led by renowned choreographer Nitisha Nanda, known for her stints on "So You Think You Can Dance India" and "India’s Got Talent," the young dancers captivated 500 spectators at the Beit Aba Hushi auditorium, earning waves of enthusiastic cheers.
Hosted by the Embassy of India in collaboration with the Haifa Municipality, the Indian Cultural Centre, and the Port of Haifa, the event celebrated the deepening ties between India and Israel. Haifa’s historical bond with India, forged during the 1918 liberation from Ottoman rule by Indian soldiers, was a focal point. Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav highlighted the sacrifices of Indian troops, noting, “We honor the Indian soldiers who shed their blood to free our city.” The city’s cemetery annually commemorates these heroes, including Major Dalpat Singh, famed for leading the last major cavalry charge in history.
India’s Ambassador J P Singh emphasized the trust and mutual respect underpinning India-Haifa relations, dedicating the performance to the city’s residents. The event, marking the launch of Amaiza’s Israel tour, showcased India’s rich cultural tapestry through vibrant rhythms and precise choreography, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
