On Wednesday evening, Houston’s cultural scene came alive with a pulsating performance by Antariksh, a Delhi-based Hindi rock fusion band, hosted by the Consulate General of India in collaboration with local diaspora organizations. Sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, the “Antariksh–Bollywood Live” concert fused Bollywood’s soulful melodies with global rock, jazz, and funk rhythms, captivating a diverse audience and showcasing music’s power in cultural diplomacy.
Led by composer, singer, and guitarist Varun Rajput, Antariksh, founded in 2012, has risen to prominence as one of India’s leading independent bands. Known for blending Bollywood classics with rock, reggae, and Carnatic influences, the band has performed over 800 shows worldwide, from the U.S. to the Maldives. Their award-winning single Quest, featuring former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and sitarist Dhruv Bedi, blends Hindi lyricism with progressive rock, earning acclaim from MTV as a pinnacle of Indian indie music.
The Houston concert, held at a packed venue, drew Indian-American diaspora members and local music fans alike. Attendees were swept away by hits like Jee Le Zara, Tasveerein, and Dil Se Dil Tak, which paired heartfelt Hindi vocals with electrifying guitar riffs and dynamic rhythms. Rajput’s collaborations with Bollywood stars Shilpa Rao and Harshdeep Kaur added a layer of star-studded appeal. The current lineup—Joshua Peter on keyboards and vocals, Dan Thomas on drums, and Shrikant Biswakarma on guitars—delivered a high-energy set that left the crowd chanting for more.

“This was a celebration of culture and connection,” said attendee Anjali Patel, a Houston resident. “Antariksh brought India to us in a way that felt universal.” The event highlighted ICCR’s mission to promote Indian heritage globally, with music serving as a bridge between communities. Consul General Shailesh Lakhtakia praised the band’s ability to unite diverse audiences, noting, “Antariksh embodies the spirit of modern India—rooted yet global.”
Fresh off a successful Seattle performance, Antariksh is set to ignite Dallas with its “Double Bollywood Dhamaka” on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at the Plano Event Center. Organized with partners like the India Association of North Texas and DFW Gujarati Samaj, the free concert (RSVP required via Meraboxoffice) promises another night of genre-defying music. As Antariksh continues its U.S. tour, it’s clear their innovative sound is not just entertaining but forging lasting cultural bonds across borders.
