India delivered a dominant performance at the U23 Asian Wrestling Championships, with the men’s freestyle team clinching the overall team title in Da Nang after a commanding medal haul that underlined the country’s growing strength in continental wrestling. The Indian contingent finished ahead of wrestling powerhouses Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan to secure the top position in the freestyle standings.
The overall campaign was marked by an impressive total of 27 medals across all categories—freestyle, women’s wrestling, and Greco-Roman—comprising 11 gold, 7 silver, and 9 bronze. The result reflects one of India’s most successful outings at the U23 level, highlighting depth across multiple weight divisions and styles.
In freestyle wrestling, India topped the team standings with nine medals, including four gold, three silver, and two bronze. Gold medal performances came from Akshay T. Dhere in the 57kg category and Vicky in the 97kg division, with further titles secured by Kumar Mohit (65kg) and Chandermohan (79kg), who both produced strong finishes in their respective brackets.

The silver medal contributors included Deepak Rathi (61kg), Punit Kumar (92kg), and Lacky (125kg), while Deepak Berwal (74kg) and Mor Sachin (82kg) added bronze medals to strengthen India’s points tally. Officials from the Wrestling Federation of India described the victory as a landmark achievement, crediting the team’s technical discipline and competitive consistency against top-ranked Asian opposition.
India’s women wrestlers also produced a standout showing, winning 10 medals, including six golds. Champions such as Muskan (53kg), Tapasya (57kg), Bhagyashree (62kg), Pulkit (67kg), Mansi (68kg), and Kajal (76kg) secured top podium finishes, reinforcing India’s dominance in the women’s category throughout the tournament.
In Greco-Roman wrestling, India added another eight medals, with Sumit winning gold in the 63kg category and Suraj (60kg) and Sagar Singh (67kg) earning silver medals. The remaining bronze medals further contributed to India’s overall tally. With the U23 event concluding, attention now shifts to the U17 Asian Wrestling Championships at the same venue, marking the continuation of India’s campaign in Da Nang.
