India on Friday strongly criticised Pakistan over its reported crackdown on civilians in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), alleging the use of excessive force against peaceful protesters and urging the international community to hold Islamabad accountable. Speaking at the Ministry of External Affairs' (MEA) bi-weekly media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the actions of the Pakistani establishment reflected "absolute disdain" for the people of PoJK and called for greater international scrutiny of the situation.
Jaiswal alleged that Pakistan's security forces had used "ruthless force" against peaceful demonstrators, claiming that the crackdown had resulted in the deaths of more than 40 civilians and left many others seriously injured. Referring to remarks by Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, who reportedly described the protesters as "enemies," Jaiswal said the statement underscored Islamabad's attitude towards the residents of PoJK. He also cited comments attributed to Pakistan Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah, alleging they amounted to an admission of Pakistan's past support for anti-India militant groups.
The MEA spokesperson further stated that the people of PoJK had appealed to international organisations to conduct an independent investigation into the reported killings and alleged human rights violations. He urged the global community to examine Pakistan's actions and ensure accountability for what India described as atrocities committed against civilians. Jaiswal also claimed that recent political developments in the region reflected growing public dissatisfaction with the Pakistani establishment.

According to reports cited by Indian officials, the ongoing protests organised by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) have spread across several areas, including Kotli, Rawalakot and Mirpur. Social media videos circulating online purportedly show confrontations between protesters and security personnel, including scenes of police action during demonstrations. Indian officials claimed that dozens of civilians had been killed and hundreds injured during the unrest, although these figures have not been independently verified.
The developments come amid continuing tensions over Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, a region claimed by both India and Pakistan. India has repeatedly maintained that the territory is an integral part of the country and has consistently raised concerns over the treatment of civilians in the region. Pakistan has not accepted India's allegations and has maintained its own position on the situation in PoJK.
