India strongly condemned the killing of five journalists in Israeli airstrikes targeting Nasser hospital in Khan Younis, Gaza, on Monday, describing the incident as “shocking and deeply regrettable.” The strikes, which claimed at least 20 lives, including the journalists, have drawn widespread international condemnation. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, through spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated India’s firm stance against the loss of civilian lives in conflict zones, emphasizing the need for their protection.
Jaiswal noted that Israeli authorities have initiated an investigation into the strikes, which have sparked global outrage due to the targeting of a medical facility and media personnel. The journalists, whose identities have not been disclosed, were reportedly covering the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza when the strikes occurred. The attack on Nasser hospital, a critical healthcare center in the region, has further intensified concerns about the safety of civilians and essential workers in conflict zones.
India’s statement aligns with its consistent advocacy for de-escalation and peace in the Israel-Palestine conflict. The ministry’s condemnation reflects growing international pressure on Israel to adhere to international humanitarian law, particularly regarding the protection of journalists and medical facilities. As the investigation unfolds, India has called for accountability and measures to prevent such tragedies, underscoring the urgent need for a resolution to the conflict to safeguard civilian lives.
