BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla has come out in support of comedian Samay Raina following a viral moment from the latest episode of Raina's show India's Got Latent. Poonawalla said people are often too quick to form opinions about the comedian based on his language, jokes and widely shared online moments, arguing that there is another side to his personality that is not always visible to the public. Poonawalla shared a moment from Raina's show on Saturday while defending the comedian from what he described as premature judgments. In his post, he said people “often judge” Raina by “his language, his jokes or his viral comebacks & moments”.
The BJP leader's comments came after a segment from the latest episode gained attention online, prompting discussion around Raina's personality and the way his humour is perceived by viewers. While Raina is widely known for his blunt and often provocative style of comedy, Poonawalla focused instead on what he described as the comedian's emotional side. Calling him someone with a “surprisingly sensitive heart”, Poonawalla suggested that Raina's public persona does not necessarily reflect his complete personality. The comments offered a different perspective on the comedian, whose content has frequently generated strong reactions across social media.
Poonawalla's support comes against the backdrop of Raina's growing public profile through India's Got Latent. The show has attracted a large online audience and become known for its informal format, irreverent humour and unscripted interactions. Clips from the programme regularly circulate on social media, often turning particular exchanges or reactions into viral moments that generate discussion well beyond the show's regular audience. The comedian's style has also made him a frequent subject of online debate, with supporters appreciating his direct approach while critics have questioned the nature of some jokes and comments associated with his content.

Poonawalla's remarks appear to challenge the tendency to evaluate Raina solely through such viral clips. By highlighting what he considers a more sensitive side, he encouraged audiences to look beyond individual jokes or controversial moments when forming an opinion about the comedian. The latest episode of India's Got Latent has once again placed Raina in the spotlight, with the viral moment becoming a talking point on social media. Such episodes demonstrate the continuing influence of the show's clips in shaping conversations around its participants and host.
Raina's ability to generate strong reactions has become an important part of his online presence, while moments from the programme frequently attract attention from people who may not watch the full episode. Poonawalla's intervention adds another layer to the conversation, particularly because his comments focus on Raina's personality rather than simply defending a particular joke or statement. By describing the comedian as having a “surprisingly sensitive heart”, he argued that the public image created through comedy and viral exchanges may not tell the whole story. His remarks have therefore drawn attention to the distinction between a performer's on-screen persona and their personality outside those moments.
