A high-level investigation has been ordered after a fire broke out in the Rajdhani Express near Kota in Rajasthan, causing panic among passengers and prompting an emergency response by railway authorities. The incident occurred on Sunday while the train was travelling along the Thiruvananthapuram–Hazrat Nizamuddin route under the jurisdiction of the West Central Railway’s Kota division.
According to preliminary reports from railway officials, the fire was detected in an AC coach of Train No. 12431, leading to immediate action by onboard staff and railway personnel. The train was halted between stations in the Kota section, and passengers were swiftly evacuated from the affected coach as a precautionary measure.
Authorities confirmed that emergency protocols were activated soon after smoke was noticed, and the overhead electric supply was disconnected to prevent further escalation. Fire and rescue teams, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, reached the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. Initial reports indicate that no casualties or serious injuries have been reported among passengers.

Railway officials said that a detailed inquiry has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the fire. Early indications suggest that technical or electrical issues could be among the possible factors, though officials have stressed that nothing has been confirmed at this stage. The affected coach has been detached for inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
The incident has also led to temporary disruption on the busy rail corridor, with several trains being regulated or delayed as safety checks and restoration work continue. Authorities are working to restore normal operations while ensuring that all affected passengers are safely accommodated and assisted in reaching their destinations.
Meanwhile, senior railway officials have assured that a comprehensive probe will be conducted to prevent similar incidents in the future. The Railways have reiterated their commitment to passenger safety and said that further updates will be issued once the investigation progresses.
