A political storm has erupted within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) as former party leader K Kavitha’s allegations against her cousin, BRS MLA T Harish Rao, have sparked widespread controversy. Speaking to reporters on Saturday after returning from a foreign tour, Harish Rao addressed Kavitha’s claims, stating he would leave her accusations to her “wisdom” while defending his 25-year political career as an “open book” for the people of Telangana.
Kavitha, who was suspended from BRS earlier this week for alleged anti-party activities, sent shockwaves through the party by accusing Harish Rao and another cousin, J Santosh Kumar, of tarnishing the image of her father, BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), over the Kaleshwaram project. She further alleged that Harish Rao was “conspiring” against KCR’s family, escalating tensions within the party’s ranks. Following her suspension, Kavitha resigned from both the BRS and her position in the Telangana Legislative Council, marking a dramatic exit from the party her father founded.
Harish Rao, KCR’s nephew, dismissed Kavitha’s accusations, noting that they echoed criticisms already made by rival political parties. “My contributions to Telangana’s statehood movement and its development under KCR’s leadership are well-known,” he asserted. He emphasized his dedication to the state, vowing to focus on countering the policies of the Congress government led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, which he accused of “destroying the systems” established during BRS’s 10-year rule.

The BRS MLA pledged to work collectively with other party leaders to address public grievances and restore the party to power. “My priority is to save Telangana from the current government’s missteps,” Harish Rao said, sidestepping further comment on Kavitha’s allegations.
Kavitha’s exit and her public criticism of Harish Rao have exposed deep rifts within the BRS, raising questions about the party’s unity and future. Political analysts suggest that this family feud could weaken the BRS’s position as it navigates challenges from the ruling Congress and other opposition parties. Meanwhile, the Telangana public watches closely as the drama unfolds, with Harish Rao’s next moves and KCR’s response eagerly anticipated.
