The Assam government has announced the completion of its planned flyover network in Guwahati city following the inauguration of a newly constructed flyover at the erstwhile Cycle Factory Road. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement on Friday while formally inaugurating the structure along with local MLAs from various constituencies.
The Chief Minister stated that the completion of this flyover marks the final segment of the broader infrastructure plan aimed at improving road connectivity and easing severe traffic congestion in Guwahati, the state’s largest and fastest-growing urban centre. He added that the new flyover has been dedicated in the name of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sarma said the project is expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks at key junctions and provide smoother travel for daily commuters. He noted that rapid urbanisation and the increasing number of vehicles in the city had placed immense pressure on existing road infrastructure, necessitating large-scale transport upgrades over recent years.

According to the Chief Minister, the flyover network was strategically designed and executed across multiple congested points in the city to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time. He expressed confidence that the completion of these projects would lead to better traffic discipline and enhance overall commuting efficiency for residents of Guwahati.
The state government has undertaken several road widening and flyover construction projects in recent years as part of a long-term urban development strategy. These initiatives are aimed at modernising Guwahati’s transport infrastructure to keep pace with its expanding population and economic activity.
Officials said the infrastructure push reflects a broader effort to address chronic traffic congestion in the city while supporting future urban growth. With the latest inauguration, the government has signalled the completion of its current flyover expansion phase, marking a significant milestone in Assam’s urban development agenda.
