A remarkable love story has captured the hearts of many as a Chinese woman married the man who rescued her from the rubble of an earthquake when she was just 11 years old. The wedding took place during the 5th Annual Han-style Collective Wedding Ceremony in Changsha, Hunan province, on November 29, where 37 couples celebrated their unions.
The bride, Liu Ximei, was rescued during the devastating 2008 Wenchuan earthquake by 22-year-old soldier Liang Zhibin. Trapped under steel bars and debris on the second floor of a collapsed building, Liu was pulled out after four grueling hours of rescue efforts led by Liang and his team. She was rushed to the hospital and later returned with her family to Zhuzhou, Hunan, while memories of her rescuer gradually faded.
Their paths unexpectedly crossed again in 2020, when Liu, then 22, spotted Liang at a restaurant in Changsha after her mother recognized him. She approached him, confirmed his identity, and soon added him on social media, reigniting a connection that would eventually blossom into romance. Over time, Liu realized her feelings were genuine, leading her to confess her love to Liang.
