A devastating incident claimed the lives of four family members, including three children, in Bihar's Saran district early Saturday morning when they suffocated due to a fire lit inside a sealed room to combat intense cold. The tragedy unfolded in the Bhagwan Bazar area, where the victims were asleep with the fire burning for warmth. Two additional family members were found unconscious and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deaths resulted from oxygen depletion caused by the burning fire in the enclosed space without adequate ventilation. Saran Senior Superintendent of Police Kumar Ashish confirmed that the deceased included three minors, emphasizing the dangers of such practices during severe winter conditions prevalent in the region.
The victims are believed to be relatives of a government official from Uttar Pradesh, though their identities are yet to be officially confirmed. Authorities responded promptly after receiving information about the incident, with police and medical teams arriving at the scene to manage the situation and provide aid to the survivors.
