In a dynamic session hosted by the Ananta Centre in New Delhi on Thursday, EU Ambassador to India Hervé Delphin declared the EU-India relationship a rising force, describing it as a "safe investment" in an era where trade, technology, and migration are increasingly weaponized. Highlighting the historic February visit of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Delphin called it a "vote of confidence" in the partnership, emphasizing its global significance.

Delphin revealed that both sides are committed to concluding an ambitious EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by the end of 2025, describing it as a potential "turbocharger" for economic ties. He stressed that no single issue would derail the negotiations, signaling strong political will. The envoy underscored the EU’s unique role as a "collective force," noting that global powers like Russia, China, and the US view it with scrutiny, proving its relevance.

Amid geopolitical turbulence, Delphin praised the EU and India as cooperative partners upholding a rules-based order. He highlighted their shared rejection of aggression, terrorism, and economic coercion, positioning them as democratic bridgeheads in a multipolar world. The EU’s ongoing "rearmament"—military, societal, and economic—aims to bolster resilience without compromising its open, democratic values. Delphin urged both sides to seize this moment to unlock the untapped potential of their strategic partnership for mutual and global benefit.
