In a fiery roadshow in Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami lambasted the ruling DMK for its alleged insincere concern for Tamil Nadu’s fishermen. He claimed the DMK only raises the Katchatheevu islet issue—ceded to Sri Lanka—during elections to score political points against the BJP-led Central government. Speaking on Thursday, Palaniswami questioned the DMK’s inaction on retrieving the island during its alliance with Congress in the UPA regime.
Palaniswami also criticized Chief Minister M K Stalin for blaming the Governor for delays in clearing Assembly Bills, accusing him of shirking responsibility. Highlighting his own tenure, Palaniswami proudly noted his government’s order under Article 162, securing a 7.5% reservation in professional courses for state-run school students. This policy, he said, enabled 2,818 students to pursue medical education, helping countless poor students achieve their dreams of becoming doctors.
“More than high positions, it’s the intent to serve people that matters,” Palaniswami declared, emphasizing AIADMK’s commitment to public welfare over political posturing. He accused Stalin of trivializing education, contrasting it with AIADMK’s tangible achievements in uplifting Tamil Nadu’s underprivileged.
