Delhi University’s North Campus transformed into a vibrant hive of excitement on Friday as the new academic session kicked off, welcoming thousands of freshers to its iconic colleges. From St. Stephen’s historic corridors to Miranda House’s lush lawns, students flooded in, clutching admission letters and buzzing with anticipation for their first taste of DU’s legendary campus life.
The day began with lively orientation programs, where seniors guided wide-eyed newcomers like Sanjana Sharma, a 20-year-old English student from Haryana, who raved about the warm welcome. “Seniors gave us tours and shared college life tips—it was amazing!” she said. Fears of ragging melted away as students like Diksha found seniors acting like “funny, helpful older siblings.”
Vishwavidyalaya Metro Station resembled a bustling terminal, spilling out selfie-snapping freshers. Campus notice boards burst with colorful posters for dramatics, dance, and debating societies, while seniors at help desks handed out pamphlets with infectious enthusiasm. “I’m overwhelmed but excited,” said Chanchal from Ajmer, navigating her first day in Delhi.

Food stalls outside Ramjas and Hindu Colleges drew crowds for the YouTube-famous chole-kulche, with students like Abhishek Singh, a 19-year-old Economics student, calling the campus “like a movie.” The Four-Year Undergraduate Programme’s full rollout added buzz, with over 39,000 students opting for the optional fourth year.
DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh assured full support for the 71,624 undergraduates across 79 programs. As freshers snapped photos, swapped numbers, and explored libraries and sports fields, students like Pratiksha at Ramjas felt instantly at home. “The first day ticked all the boxes—professors were warm, seniors welcoming,” she said.
From rickshaw rides to new friendships, DU’s opening day was a chaotic, magical start to a journey one student described as confusing, complicated, and beautiful—just like life.
