In a groundbreaking move to empower the capital’s youth, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the Viksit Delhi Chief Minister Internship Programme on Monday at the Delhi Secretariat. The initiative, hailed as a first in Delhi’s history, aims to integrate young talent into the governance framework, fostering innovation and solution-driven thinking for the city’s future.
At the launch event, Gupta personally handed out internship offer letters to 87 students selected from nearly 9,000 applicants through a rigorous, transparent process. These interns, drawn from colleges across Delhi, will work for three months alongside senior officials in various government departments. Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000, recognizing their contributions to projects that promise to redefine governance in the capital.
“This is not just an internship; it’s a movement to co-create Delhi’s future,” Gupta declared. She emphasized that the program breaks from past practices where internships often served political agendas or benefited only a select few. “For the first time, we’re opening the system to non-political talent, harnessing fresh ideas, innovative technology, and bold visions from our youth to drive meaningful change,” she added.

The program is designed to immerse interns in the complexities of governance, encouraging them to develop practical solutions to real-world challenges. Gupta highlighted its focus on advancing Delhi toward paperless governance, data-driven decision-making, smart policy formulation, and digital innovation. “This partnership allows us to not only teach but also learn from the creativity and energy of young minds,” she said.
The initiative aligns with the broader Viksit Bharat vision, aiming to position Delhi as a model of modern, efficient governance. Interns will collaborate on projects ranging from urban development to digital transformation, gaining hands-on experience while contributing to policies that impact millions. The government hopes the program will inspire a new generation of leaders equipped to tackle the capital’s evolving needs.
Gupta also underscored the program’s transparency, noting that the selection process prioritized merit over connections. “These 87 young minds represent Delhi’s brightest future. Their ideas will serve as a catalyst for innovation, making our administration smarter, faster, and more inclusive,” she said.
The Viksit Delhi Chief Minister Internship Programme is set to run for three months, with plans to expand its reach in future editions. As the interns begin their journey, the initiative marks a bold step toward empowering youth to shape a progressive, tech-savvy, and citizen-centric Delhi.
