Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday praised outgoing Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva for his leadership role in bringing the Bharatiya Janata Party back to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years. In a message posted on social media platform X, the Chief Minister described Sachdeva’s tenure as “historic” and credited his organisational abilities, dedication, and consistent grassroots engagement for the party’s electoral success in Delhi. Her remarks came as the BJP announced a major leadership transition within its Delhi unit alongside organisational reshuffles in several other states.
Rekha Gupta said Virendra Sachdeva’s tenure as Delhi BJP chief was marked by tireless hard work and strong organisational management. She stated that the party’s victory in Delhi after nearly three decades reflected the effectiveness of his leadership and strategic planning. According to the Chief Minister, Sachdeva’s efforts in mobilising workers and maintaining close contact with the public played a crucial role in rebuilding the BJP’s political base in the capital. She also highlighted his commitment to addressing civic concerns and advocating for the rights of Delhi residents during his tenure as state president.
In her message, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Sachdeva for his contribution to strengthening the party organisation in Delhi. She noted that his approachable leadership style and ability to maintain close relations with party workers had inspired many within the organisation. Gupta added that his tenure would continue to serve as an example for BJP workers and leaders in the future. She extended her best wishes to Sachdeva for his future political responsibilities and acknowledged his role in shaping the party’s recent electoral success in the city.

At the same time, Rekha Gupta welcomed Union Minister of State and East Delhi MP Harsh Malhotra as the newly appointed Delhi BJP President. Congratulating him on his appointment, she described him as a dedicated organisational leader with strong grassroots connections. Gupta said Malhotra’s long association with the BJP and his experience working closely with party workers would help further strengthen the Delhi unit. She also expressed confidence that under his leadership, the BJP organisation in Delhi would expand its outreach and continue working towards the vision of a “developed Delhi” aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national development agenda.
The BJP’s decision to appoint new state presidents forms part of a broader organisational restructuring undertaken by the party leadership ahead of upcoming political challenges. Along with Delhi, the BJP also announced new state presidents for Haryana, Punjab, and Tripura. The appointments were confirmed through a notification issued by BJP National Secretary Arun Singh, and the changes came into effect immediately. Political observers view the reshuffle as part of the party’s strategy to strengthen state units and consolidate organisational networks in key regions ahead of future elections.
The leadership transition in Delhi is being closely watched within political circles as the BJP seeks to maintain momentum after its recent electoral gains in the national capital. The party’s return to power after 27 years marked a significant political milestone and has increased expectations from the new leadership team. With Harsh Malhotra now taking charge of the Delhi BJP unit, attention will focus on how the party plans to build on its recent success, manage governance responsibilities, and prepare for future electoral contests in the capital.
