Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday said the national capital will be developed into an education hub by expanding opportunities for students and strengthening academic infrastructure. Addressing the curtain raiser event for the diamond jubilee celebrations of Delhi University's Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Gupta highlighted the importance of quality education and said Delhi should become a centre where students can access world-class learning opportunities. Speaking at the event, Gupta said values such as patriotism should be instilled among school students so that they carry these principles into higher education and contribute towards building a developed India.
She said that individuals who understand the meaning of patriotism can play a role in taking the country forward and supporting the vision of "Viksit Bharat". "We have to develop opportunities so that students can get a good education within the country and Delhi can be the centre of that. We are looking into developing Delhi into an education hub," Gupta said while discussing the government's focus on improving educational facilities in the capital. The Chief Minister said strengthening the education ecosystem would help create better opportunities for students and encourage young people to pursue higher studies within India.
She emphasised that educational institutions have an important role in shaping future generations and preparing them to contribute to national development. The event was attended by several senior officials from Delhi University, including Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, Dean of Colleges Balram Pani, Registrar Vikas Gupta and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College Principal Arun Kumar Attree. The gathering marked the beginning of celebrations for the college's 60th anniversary, highlighting its contribution to higher education in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Delhi University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh referred to the legacy of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh, after whom the college is named. He said history remembers individuals who work towards building a future for the nation rather than focusing only on personal achievements. His remarks highlighted the importance of social responsibility and nation-building among students. Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, one of Delhi University's constituent colleges, has completed six decades of providing higher education to students across various disciplines.
The institution has played a role in shaping academic and professional careers while contributing to the broader educational landscape of the national capital. The Delhi government's plan to develop the city into an education hub is expected to focus on improving infrastructure, increasing opportunities for students and strengthening collaboration between educational institutions. The announcement comes amid broader efforts to position Indian cities as centres of learning and innovation, with education seen as a key driver of economic and social development.
