The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), India’s busiest aviation hub, will impose temporary restrictions on non-scheduled flights on August 15, 2025, to accommodate heightened security measures for Independence Day celebrations.
According to an official statement, no landings or take-offs for non-scheduled flights, including those operated by scheduled airlines and chartered services, will be permitted from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the day.
The restrictions, announced via a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Aeronautical Information Services (AIS) under the Airports Authority of India (AAI), aim to ensure safety and operational efficiency during the national event. The NOTAM provides critical information for flight personnel, specifying that scheduled flight operations will remain unaffected.
Additionally, exemptions have been granted for state-owned aircraft and helicopters carrying Governors or Chief Ministers, as well as flights conducting quick-response missions or immediate medical evacuations. Aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF), Border Security Force (BSF), and Army aviation helicopters are also exempt from the curbs.
Handling approximately 1,300 flight movements daily, IGIA is a critical node in India’s aviation network. The temporary measures reflect the authorities’ commitment to prioritizing security and seamless operations during significant national events, ensuring that essential and scheduled services continue uninterrupted while non-scheduled activities are paused during the specified hours.
